Today your group will be responsible for producing a five minute Oprah Winfrey type chat show - The Dickie/Dixie Rake Show. The topic for discussion on your show will be:
FUNNIEST/ MOST EMBARRASSING MOMENTS ON WORK EXPERIENCE
Things you might discuss could be:
*mistakes *getting lost * practical jokes *accidents
*embarrassing things you said *imitating people *arriving late
You will have 20 minutes to organise the discussion. While other groups are performing you will be acting as the studio audience. You will receive a Speaking and Listening grade based on your preparation and performance.
In your preparation time you must:
- Decide who will be Dickie/Dixie and who will be guests.
- Spend the last five minutes rehearsing your discussion.
- Make sure the real discussion will not be longer than five minutes. If it does over run the Director (your teacher) will stop the show in mid flow.
If you are Dickie / Dixie you must:
- Discuss with your guests what story they could tell on the show.
- Decide what order your guests will talk in ( so you must know their names).
- Be prepared, during the show, to ask interesting questions and to prompt extra information from your guests.
- Ensure that everyone gets a chance to speak.
- Invite the audience to respond. E.g. "What do you think, audience?"
If you are a guest you must:
- Know what you are going to say.
- Have made a label to introduce yourself. E.g. "Stephen Ward - spilt tea over boss - on the first day!"
- Consider how your story could be developed so that you can respond to extra questions.
- Be aware of the audience. Ask them for support but do not show off, this is a chat show not a talent contest.
You will all be members of the audience. You must:
- Listen to each group. If you do not you could have marks deducted.
- Think of questions for guests and respond to what the guests say.
- If you want to speak you must stand up and wait for Dickie / Dixie to give you the microphone.
YOU ONLY HAVE A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME. YOU MUST WORK HARD IF YOU ARE GOING TO ACHIEVE A GOOD GRADE.
