So many words in the English Language come originally from other countries or languages. One of the greatest influences on the development of English was LATIN and even today many Latin words are still used. In particular, scientists will often name new discoveries with Latin terms. One well-known example is:
Tyrannosaurus Rex - which is Latin for
King of the tyrant lizards
When you visit the zoo you will find signs and notices outside the cages of every exhibit explaining what the animal is, where it comes from, what its eating habits are etc

YOUR TASK is to create 5 new animals and to write the zoological descriptions of them following the plan below. You must give each creature a proper, scientific name as well as a 'common household' name that is easier to remember.
Use the Latin words in the bank to help you construct each name.
After you have finished there is space for you to illustrate your work if you wish.
Here is an example:
Scientific name of animal: TIMIDUS QUATTUOR UNGULD SABULO (MINOR)
Common name of animal: Fourpawsand
General description including information on shape, size, colour and special features or habits: This is a particularly timid creature. What makes the animal so interesting and indeed so rare is that all four of its paws are at the front, leaving a short stubby rear end that has to be dragged along the sand. Its head is small but an adult Fourpawsand can grow up to 1 metre in length. The usual colour of its long shaggy coat is grey-blue, but this changes at night to a bright orange. It does make an unusual noise when sleeping: a sort of high-pitched scream that warns off any predators.
Country of origin: Eastern Timbuktu
Description of usual habitat: A dry sandy area with low bushes for making nests in. The Fourpawsand does not need much water but its coat does drop out in cold weather so it should always be kept warm.
Eating habits: The Fourpawsand likes to dig for roots and its four paws make this an easy task to perform. It is completely vegetarian.
Life expectancy: 15 years and 4 months exactly.
Common predators: Often hunted by dogs, but the scream does tend to put them off.
Now it's your turn!
