Midsummer Mayhem
Speaking and Listening assignment for A Midsummer Night's Dream
Created by S.J.Garton
In groups of 4-5, stage a Jerry Springer style show where a group of characters from the play publicise their problems with each other. Your choices of show are:
- "My daughter won't obey me" - Egeus and Hermia try to resolve their differences. Lysander and/or Demetrius could also be brought on stage.
- "My Queen is being unfaithful!" - Oberon reveals his disapproval of Titania's adoption of the Indian boy and her supposed love for Theseus.
- "I can't cope with my husband's jealousy" - Similar to the above except that Titania is complaining here about Oberon's possessive nature and the way he accuses her of loving Theseus.
- "My boyfriend loves my best friend" - Hermia reveals how Lysander is now madly in love with Helena. (Helena and/or Demetrius)
- Think carefully about how your argument will develop and which characters need to be involved.
- Make sure every member of your group has a full part to play so that everyone has the chance to get a good speaking and listening mark.
